Denmark and the Netherlands plan to transfer 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. However, they can only be delivered at the beginning of 2024, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen and acting Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said, Report informs referring to RBC-Ukraine.
“We are talking about a big donation from the Danish side as part of a joint project with the Netherlands, we are transferring 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. This is a very significant contribution in addition to the 100 used Leopard 1 vehicles we announced,” Rasmussen said.
Poulsen noted that these 14 tanks will be delivered to Ukraine in early 2024.
“These are not Danish tanks. They are purchased in cooperation with the Netherlands. It is no secret that there was a desire to consider the possibility of transferring Leopard 2 tanks, which are even larger than Leopard 1. Now this is possible, we are happy and proud of this,” he added.
Poulsen expressed hope that approximately 80 Leopard 1 tanks would be delivered to Ukraine by the end of 2023.
