Death toll reaches 50 in Bangladesh quota reform protests

The death toll in Bangladesh's ongoing protests against the government job quota system has risen to at least 50, according to Report, which cites Agence France-Presse.

The unrest, which has gripped the nation, saw five more lives lost on Friday alone.

Law enforcement agencies have resorted to using rubber bullets and water cannons to disperse the crowds. In response, protesters have armed themselves with sticks, iron rods, and stones, many donning motorcycle helmets for protection. The capital city, Dhaka, has witnessed military helicopters hovering overhead, while armored vehicles patrol the streets.
