Death toll in Malaysia flooding rises to 37

The number of deaths caused by flooding in western Malaysia has risen to 37. At least ten more are still unaccounted for, Report informs, citing TASS.

Information about the death of five locals, including a child, has been received over the past day. The situation is worst in Pahang. Nearly 68,300 people are in the evacuation centers.

Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has declared the allocation of $23.6 million to restore the infrastructure and the houses destroyed by flooding. He also announced that every family who suffered from the natural calamity would receive $236 in compensation.

According to local meteorological services, the precipitation, which lasted for nearly a week in several districts in the west of Malaysia, became the strongest over the past century.
