Death toll in Hurricane Ida surges

The death toll from flooding in the United States has risen to 49 people, Report informs, citing Interfax.

Intensive rainfalls hit the northeastern US on Wednesday and Thursday after Hurricane Ida, flooding cars, subway, and houses in five states. Most of the victims were in their vehicles when flows of water hit them.

At least 25 people died in New Jersey and 11 in New York. The flooding also claimed lives in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut.

According to a Dortmund University researcher, the water level in seven rivers in the North-East has reached an all-time high on record. Sewage systems did not cope with such amounts of water.
