Cuba starts mass vaccination of children aged 2-11

Cuban doctors on Sept. 16 began a mass vaccination program against coronavirus for children in primary school and those of preschool age, Report informs referring to TASS.

The locally produced jab Soberana 02 will be used for vaccinations.

According to the Cuban Ministry of Health, from Sept. 15 to Nov. 15, it is planned to vaccinate about 1.1 million children aged 2 to 11 years, and from Sept. 5 to Nov. 5 - 855,000 adolescents aged 12 to 18 will get their jabs.

The authorities note that vaccination will help not only protect the younger generation from infection but also quickly resume a full-fledged educational process in schools. Currently, Cuban schoolchildren receive education online, and state TV broadcasts special programs.

In September, the vaccination of pregnant women and women who have recently given birth is also nearing end. In total, about 4.33 million people out of 11 million Cuban citizens have been vaccinated with the local jabs Abdala and Soberana 02 to date. The Cuban authorities are planning to complete the vaccination of the population by the end of this year.
