CIS Secretary General addresses Armenia's potential withdrawal

In a recent statement, Sergey Lebedev, the Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), has expressed his views on Armenia's potential exit from the organization, Report informs.

While responding to the question of the News.ru reporter at the Primakov Readings scientific forum, Lebedev confidently stated, "I see no risk of Armenia leaving the CIS.”

However, Lebedev did acknowledge some concerning trends. "It is with great regret that I note Armenia's recent absence from many CIS forums," he remarked.

The Secretary General emphasized that this situation is detrimental not only to the CIS but also to Armenia itself.

Lebedev pointed to external factors influencing Armenia's stance, particularly highlighting Western pressure.

"I see significant pressure from the West on Armenia," he observed.

"As a result, in some cases, the West is pushing Armenia to take an anti-Russian position or limit its cooperation within the CIS framework."
