Chaos on rails: 80,000 passengers stranded in France due to power outage

The high-speed train services on the southeastern line in France were thrown into disarray due to power supply issues, affecting a staggering 80,000 passengers. The National Company of French Railways (SNCF) reported that the disruption was caused by a series of unfortunate incidents triggered by a night of intense thunderstorms.

According to Report, which cites SNCF, "several trees fell onto the Southeastern high-speed line near the Saint-Florentin junction in the Yonne department due to the severe weather conditions. One of the fallen trees was struck by a train."

The incident has led to a complete suspension of train services between Paris and Lyon, as well as Paris and Dijon, until at least 2:00 PM local time. Passengers are strongly advised to postpone their travel plans for the next few hours to avoid further inconvenience. As a gesture of goodwill, SNCF has announced that all tickets issued for the affected day will be eligible for exchange or refund.
