British parliament establishes special committee to study fake news

A special subcommittee has been established in the British Parliament to study disinformation and fake news.

Report informs citing the RIA Novosti that the due report was provided by Digital, Culture, Media and Sports Committee of the House of Commons.

"We are confident that there is a public interest in continuing our study of the threat to democracy posed by misinformation. Therefore, we are forming a new subcommittee on disinformation. We will launch a new website (for the Committee) and hold hearings with the Jeremy WrightMinister for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport in May 2019," the report said.

Notably, at the first hearing, the deputies plan to discuss the government's response to the previously published report "Misinformation and fake news", as well as a report on malicious actions on the Internet, that is planned to be published in the near future. All members of the Committee on digital technologies will be able to participate in the hearings.
