Brazilians protest against President Bolsonaro's COVID response

Protests against the government of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and his policies amidst the coronavirus pandemic are taking place throughout Brazil, Report informs with reference to the G1 portal.

Demonstrations against the Bolsonaro government started on May 29 in at least 24 states and the Federal District of Brazil. During the day, people gathered in crowds, marched, and made numerous demands.

In particular, the protesters demanded the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines, the provision of emergency assistance to the population, and the observance of the rights of citizens to decent education and health care. There were also calls for the impeachment of the president.

The demonstrations were mostly peaceful. However, in the city of Recife, the capital of the northeastern state of Pernambuco, the military police dispersed the protesters using rubber bullets and tear gas.
