Brazilian experts have commenced the crucial task of decoding the cockpit voice recorder from the AZAL plane that tragically crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan on December 25. The black boxes arrived in Brazil on Wednesday (Thursday in Baku time), Report informs via Brazilian G1.
Sources familiar with the investigation revealed that the analysis of the flight recorders began on January 2 (January 3 in Baku time). The Brazilian Air Force (Força Aérea Brasileira - FAB) is actively participating in the data extraction and examination process.
The retrieved information will be handed over to Kazakhstan's Aviation Accident Investigation Department, the agency responsible for thoroughly analyzing and investigating this unfortunate incident, as clarified by FAB officials.
The AZAL passenger plane, operating flight Baku-Grozny, crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan on December 25th. Out of the 67 individuals on board, 38 tragically lost their lives, while 29 miraculously survived.
By decree of Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev, the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan was posthumously awarded to the deceased crew members - Igor Ivanovich Kshnyakin, Alexander Georgievich Kalyaninov, and Hokuma Jalil gizi Aliyeva. The surviving crew members, Zulfugar Sardar oglu Asadov and Aydan Vagif gizi Rahimli, were honored with the "Rashadat" Order of the 1st degree for their bravery during the ordeal.
Preliminary findings suggest that the plane crash resulted from physical and technical external interference.
