Brazil holds presidential election

Brazilians are voting in presidential election today.

According to Report, voters are electing the country's president for a four-year term, as well as state governors, members of the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate, and representatives to regional legislative assemblies.

A total of 12 candidates are competing for the presidency, while more than 158 million Brazilians are eligible to vote.

Polling stations will close at 5:00 p.m. local time (GMT-3).

The main contest is between incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Flávio Bolsonaro, a senator representing Brazil's right-wing forces. According to the latest opinion polls, both candidates are running neck and neck, with support ranging between 45% and 48%.

If no presidential candidate secures more than 50% of the valid votes, a runoff election will be held on October 25.
