Borrell: EU wants to restore border control mission on Gaza-Egypt border

The EU leadership is negotiating the restoration of its border control mission between the Gaza Strip and Egypt in order to evacuate Gaza residents injured in the fighting who were left without medical care, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Report informs referring to TASS.

"A ministerial meeting of the Arab League is taking place in Egypt, to which I was invited. We are also negotiating so that our EU border control mission, which has been on the border between Egypt and Gaza for many years, can return and open a checkpoint through which it will be possible to evacuate primarily the wounded who cannot receive assistance in Gaza," he said.

He also announced Brussels' intention to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as soon as possible.
