Johnson urges to protect Britain from threat of EU dismemberment

The UK government is confident that the current Brexit agreement could give the EU a theoretical opportunity to destroy its "economic and territorial integrity," Report says, citing The Daily Telegraph.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned London about the threat of state dismemberment. He urged MPs to approve a bill that would avoid it.

According to him, trade negotiations between London and Brussels are at an impasse. If they break down, the EU may insist on an interpretation of the Brexit section unacceptable for the United Kingdom. It is a protocol for Northern Ireland, which stipulates general principles for the movement of goods across the transparent border between the EU-member Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, which is part of the UK.

Johnson warned that if London does not agree to Brussels' terms, it will establish a full-fledged customs border in the Irish Sea, and the protocol on Northern Ireland will be interpreted radically.

"The EU will not only impose tariffs on goods traveling to Northern Ireland from the UK, but it may also stop food supplies along this route," the British prime minister wrote.

Johnson pointed out that London did not believe that the EU could take advantage of the lack of specificity in the wording of the urgently drafted protocol to begin a trade "blockade of the United Kingdom" or threaten to destroy the "economic and territorial integrity" of the state.

The head of the British government said that he would not allow the European Union to have even a theoretical opportunity to "dismember the country," so the new bill on the internal market will become insurance.

"Let's… make the EU abandon its threats and approve the bill, strengthening our negotiating position and protecting the country," Johnson summarizes.
