Bolivia proposes to create OPEC-like organzation for lithium producers

Bolivian President Luis Arce has proposed to create an organization similar to OPEC for lithium-exporting countries. It will include Argentina, Bolivia, Peru and Chile, Report informs via 1prime.

"We have lithium in Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and Peru; we are ready to jointly develop a policy that will ensure the position of our countries as suppliers of this form of energy on sovereign terms that are favorable to our peoples," Arce said, adding that it is necessary to create an organization similar to OPEC.

In May 2022, Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador said that the authorities of Mexico, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile, which have lithium reserves, were discussing the creation of an association for the exchange of exploration and mining technologies for the mineral.
