At least 30 people injured as Sri Lankan protesters storm President Rajapaksa's home

At least 30 people including police officers were hospitalised after being injured during the ongoing protest in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Report informs via TimesNow.

Protestors today stormed Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's residence even as the police opened fire and tried to keep them at bay with tear gas and water cannons.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has since called an emergency meeting to find an immediate solution.

The worsening economic situation in the country has led to increasing tensions and confrontations.

Over the past few hours, thousands of protesters have gathered in the national capital in defiance of a curfew and other restrictions imposed by the police.

Sri Lanka is suffering its worst economic crisis since gaining independence in 1948.
