Approximately 120 tons of oil surfaced on sea in France

About 120 tons of oil, stored in a local bunker for almost 50 years, has surfaced off the coast of the Brittany region in France, Report informs via the Western media.

The incident occurred in the Pointe du Raz area, one of the most famous locations with numerous abandoned World War II bunkers.

The water surface was contaminated by 120 tons of oil and equipment used for its extraction, which were abandoned here after the tanker "Belen" crashed in 1976.

According to Maël de Calan, a representative of the local Finistère authorities, specialists will assess the situation in the first quarter of 2025 to determine necessary measures for cleaning the area.

Since January 1, authorities have banned public access to the bunker and its surroundings. Environmentalists report that similar oil deposits still exist in other bunkers in Brittany. It is not yet known how dangerous the situation is for local residents or nature.
