Annual income of criminals from illegal migration exceedes $600M in Mexico

The total income of criminal groups involved in the organization of illegal migration in Mexico exceeded $600 million in 2019 alone, the Interior Ministry said, Report informs.

Seven out of 10 migrants from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador who entered the United States illegally from Mexico's northern border used the services of guides. The minimum payment per guide is $4,559. In 2019, total income from the illegal migration made up $615 million.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of undocumented migrants try to enter the United States from Mexico. According to official estimates, from January 1 to April 13, 2022, law enforcement and migration authorities detained 115,300 foreigners. Last year, their number exceeded 250,000, and 110,000 were eventually deported.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said in August 2021 that his government would continue to prevent the flow of migration. He also noted that it's necessary to solve the problems that force people to leave their countries in search of a better life.
