Abbas, Trump mull establishment of peace between Palestine and Israel

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that he discussed with US President-elect Donald Trump the establishment of peace with Israel with the involvement of Saudi Arabia, Report informs via TASS.

"Saudi Arabia, the United States, Egypt, Jordan, and Qatar are interested in finding a solution. The Americans want to normalize Saudi Arabia's relations [with Israel], but Riyadh will not normalize relations with Israel until [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu recognizes the state of Palestine. We talked with Trump for a long time on the phone, discussing the topic of ending the war and achieving peace with the participation of Saudi Arabia," he said in an interview with the Corriere della Sera newspaper.

He said that the Palestinian National Authority is ready to take control of the Gaza Strip. "Hamas is part of our people, we do not exclude it, but it is not a government," Abbas said, adding that the Hamas-Israel agreement in 2007 was an attempt to separate the Gaza Strip from Palestine. "We no longer want such an agreement," the Palestinian president said.
