5.9-magnitude quake occur near coast of Papua New Guinea

A strong magnitude 5.9 earthquake occurred in the South Pacific Ocean near the coast of Papua New Guinea in the early morning of Thursday, at 12.36 am local time (GMT +10), Report informs via VolcanoDiscovery.

The quake had a shallow depth of 52 km (32 mi) and was reported felt by some people near the epicenter.

No significant damage or impact is expected from this quake and no particular alert was issued.
