5.2-magnitude earthquake hits Papua New Guinea

An earthquake measuring 5.2 magnitude on the Richter scale struck east of Papua New Guinea, Report informs.

The epicenter of the quake was 100 km southwest of Lae city in Papua New Guinea, at a depth of 60 km, the Australian Geological Survey Organisation (AGSO) reported on Wednesday.

There have been no reports of casualties or material damage caused by the earthquake.

Papua New Guinea is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, where many volcanic eruptions and earthquakes occur.

This region includes 90 percent of the active volcanoes in the world. In February 2018, a devastating earthquake hit the region, killing at least 100 people and causing landslides that buried dozens of villages. (QNA)
