26 people detained over riots near Seimas building of Lithuania

More than 20 people were detained on Wednesday night in connection with the riots that began on Tuesday evening at the building of the Seimas (Parliament) of Lithuania and lasted until two o'clock on Wednesday morning, Report informs, citing TASS.

"26 people were detained and placed in the detention center. A decision on the restraint measure will have to be made in their regard, "The Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic said.

The Lithuanian police also on Tuesday evening announced the beginning of an investigation into the organization of riots.

The police liberated the territory near the Sejm from protesters against the authorities ' intention to restrict the rights of those who were not vaccinated against coronavirus around two o'clock on Wednesday morning. The protest action was coordinated with the authorities. It started on Tuesday at 10: 00 and was supposed to end at 17: 00. In total, according to the police, about 5 thousand people took part in it. By the evening, several hundred protesters remained at the Seimas and blocked the exits from the building, preventing the deputies from leaving. There were clashes with the police. About ten policemen were injured.
