10,000 houses in Japan remain without water supply due to cold weather for second day

At least 10,000 residential buildings in the Japanese prefecture of Ishikawa remain without water for the second day due to severe frosts and snowfalls that hit this region of Japan, Report informs referring to the NHK TV channel.

About 10,000 houses in five cities and towns of the prefecture remain without water after the cold weather damaged water pipes. Troubleshooting is complicated by the fact that many of the leaks and damage to pipes originate in empty houses, of which there are about 1,500 in these cities and towns. Access to pipes is also hampered by heavy snowfall.

Units of the country’s Self-Defense Forces, together with volunteers, deliver fresh water to local residents. Now the temperature is below zero in this region of Japan, but next week weather forecasters promise warming up to +11C.
