The visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Italy will further deepen the already strong ties between the two nations, Fuad Huseynaliyev, director of Report news agency, said in an interview with CBC TV.
Huseynaliyev emphasized that Italy has consistently supported Azerbaijan's position on matters of sovereignty.
"Italy's objective stance has fostered the development of our economic relations. Today, Italy is Azerbaijan's top partner, with which we have the highest trade turnover," he stated.
The director also highlighted Italy's crucial role as a partner in Azerbaijan's gas exports to Europe. "Italy is home to the final point of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), through which our country supplies gas to 10 European countries, playing a significant role in the region's energy market," he noted.
Regarding the upcoming COP29 climate conference in Baku, Huseynaliyev stressed that Italy shares Azerbaijan's interest in addressing climate change issues. "Italy is not a major polluter compared to larger players who have contributed more to environmental pollution. So, I believe Italy's position on this problem will align with that of developing countries, particularly on on shared responsibility and finding solutions to the current climate situation," he said.
