After liberating its territories from 30-year-long Armenian occupation in 2020, Azerbaijan took the initiative to normalize relations with Armenia and sign a peace treaty based on the norms and principles of international law. Respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity is the basis of today's international order, the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Sahiba Gafarova, said at the opening ceremony of the meeting of the Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) held in Baku, Report informs.
The speaker pointed out that despite the strong will of Azerbaijan and the consistent steps it has taken towards long-term peace and stability, Armenia is acting on the contrary: "Retracting from agreements and making new excuses, avoiding real negotiations, causing military and political provocations, efforts to keep afloat the illegal separatist regime created in our territories are the unchanging behavior of Armenia during the last two and a half years".
Gafarova emphasized that Azerbaijan has repeatedly demanded the unconditional and complete withdrawal of more than 10,000 armed soldiers of Armenia from the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan and the dissolution of the so-called regime, declaring that this is the main and important condition for achieving peace and stability in the region.
