Azerbaijan may ban termination of contracts with people who have little left to retirement age

Baku. 26 February. REPORT.AZ/ It is proposed to prohibit the unreasonable termination of an employment contract for women who have 10 years and men who have 7 years till a labour pension.

Report informs that this is reflected in the annual report of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan for 2018. The report notes that during job cuts, one of the most serious issues that is not taken into account is that people who have minimum 5-7 years before the retirement age are being dismissed from work: “Providing people, especially women, with job at this age is a serious problem. So a ban should be imposed on the unjustified termination of an employment contract with women who have 10 years and men who have 7 years before the retirement age. In this regard, the corresponding addition should be made to Article 79 of the Labor Code, as well as Article 192 of the Code of Administrative Offenses to determine administrative responsibility for the employer's unreasonable refusal to employ in some cases."
