Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Matvienko has accepted an invitation from the Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (Parliament) Sahiba Gafarova to pay an official visit to the country, the press service of the upper house of parliament said.
"Sahiba Gafarova invited Valentina Matvienko to visit Azerbaijan on an official visit. The Federation Council Speaker accepted the invitation. Specific dates for the visit will be agreed upon later," the statement says.
It also notes that during the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, Matvienko and Gafarova agreed to intensify parliamentary contacts.
Additionally, issues of bilateral cooperation, including parliamentary relations, as well as interaction in international forums were discussed.
