Azerbaijan rejects unfounded accusations in Luxembourg parliament's resolution

The Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan considers the resolution adopted by the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies on November 20 to be biased, subjective, and unfair, and firmly rejects the unfounded accusations made against the country, Report informs, referring to Milli Majlis's declaration.

"This step demonstrates that the Luxembourg parliament has become an arena for political adventures," the statement emphasizes.

The Milli Majlis noted that the issues mentioned in the resolution, accompanied by obvious disrespect for Azerbaijan's sovereignty and ignoring measures to protect national security, public stability, and territorial integrity, constitute gross interference in Azerbaijan's internal affairs.

"Claims about the early presidential elections held on February 7, 2024, are completely unfounded. Azerbaijan's progress in improving electoral practices has been internationally recognized. The elections were held in full compliance with national legislation and international obligations," the Azerbaijani parliament emphasizes.

The resolution's allegations about arbitrary arrests and restrictions on freedom of opinion and assembly are based on gross distortions. "The arrests of persons mentioned in the reports were conducted based on compelling evidence of their law violations and with all necessary legal procedures observed," the Milli Majlis notes.

Azerbaijan's legislative body also considered claims about the presence of political prisoners in the country unfounded. "Such accusations are part of a campaign to discredit Azerbaijan. It is regrettable that attempts are being made to disparage efforts to develop civil society and strengthen democratic processes in the country," the statement emphasizes.

The Milli Majlis indicated that 76 deputies of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, including members of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies, were declared "persona non grata" due to their active support of actions contradicting Azerbaijan's efforts to establish peace and stability, as well as obvious disrespect for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty. The call to lift these measures shows a lack of understanding of such support's serious consequences for bilateral and multilateral relations.

"Azerbaijan is committed to constructive dialogue with all international partners, including Luxembourg. However, such dialogue must be based on mutual respect and compliance with international law. In this regard, the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan demands that the Luxembourg Chamber of Representatives abandon aggressive rhetoric and the practice of adopting resolutions that contradict the principles of parliamentary dialogue and diplomacy, and undermine trust and efforts to create cooperation," the statement emphasizes.
