US accuses Russia of testing anti-satellite missile

Russia tested a missile capable of knocking out satellites in orbit, the top US space general said on Wednesday, according to foreign media.

The Russian anti-satellite missile (also known as "ASAT") is capable of destroying satellites in low Earth orbit, according to US Space Command, which is tracking the test.

"US Space Command is aware and tracking Russia's direct-ascent anti-satellite (DA-ASAT) missile test April 15," the command said in a statement.

Russia last conducted a test of its PL-19 Nudol anti-satellite missile system in December 2018.
