Suspected hydrogen sulfide poisoning claims lives of four Azerbaijani servicemen

In a tragic incident, four servicemen of the Azerbaijani army have lost their lives in Lachin, presumably due to poisoning while bathing in a thermal spring containing hydrogen sulfide. The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan confirmed the news to Report.

The deceased military personnel have been identified as Captain Asif Gakhraman oglu Emnaliyev, Warrant Officer Farid Famil oglu Jabrayilov, and two soldiers of the extended active military service, Sergeant Tural Mashallah oglu Samadov and Sergeant Emin Ogtay oglu Shahmarli. Their bodies were found in a thermal spring located in the Lachin district.

According to preliminary investigations, the soldiers were poisoned on July 30 while bathing during off-duty hours. Thermal springs, while known for their therapeutic properties, can also pose risks if they contain high levels of toxic gases like hydrogen sulfide. Exposure to high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide can lead to rapid unconsciousness and even death.

The Ministry of Defense expressed their deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased soldiers.
