Expert: Tension in Karabakh caused not only by Armenia, but also by Russian peacekeepers

The main cause of the tension in Karabakh today is not only Armenia, but also Russia's peacekeeping contingent, Adalat Verdiyev, an Azerbaijani military expert, told Report.

If Armenia had fulfilled the terms of the Tripartite Statement signed 16 months ago in time and the Russian side had fully exercised supervision over the implementation of these processes, we would not see Armenian militants in Karabakh today and would not face their provocation," Verdiyev said.

According to the expert, it seems that the hypocritical actions taken by Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh are coming to an end:

"At present, our army is continuing the latest relocation processes. It seems that the clerks in the Russian Defense Ministry have not yet read or do not want to read the terms of the Tripartite Statement. If they do, they will see that paragraph 4 clearly and explicitly mentions the period of withdrawal of Armenian militants from the territory of Azerbaijan."

"If Russia believes that it can search for fascists or Nazis in the territory of Ukraine, then it must recognize the right of Azerbaijan to exercise its right in its own territory, Karabakh. According to unconfirmed reports, Armenian militants are preparing more large-scale provocations in Karabakh. This is evidenced by the 'declaration of martial law' by the leadership of the separatist formation. If Russian peacekeepers do not withdraw Armenian militants from the territory of Azerbaijan, then our country will have to respond to these provocations on a larger scale. No one, including Russian peacekeepers or Armenian militants, can demonstrate arbitrariness on the Azerbaijani soil," Verdiyev added.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry has addressed the Russian Defense Ministry with a request to ensure the withdrawal of the remnants of the Armenian army and illegal Armenian armed groups from the internationally recognized territories of Azerbaijan, not to spread distorted information about the movement of the Azerbaijani armed forces within the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan, not to use the term "Nagorno-Karabakh," but name the Azerbaijani territories correctly.
