Since the end of the Second Karabakh War, 129,831 hectares of land have been cleared of landmines, the Chairman of the Management Board of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), Vugar Suleymanov, said at a press conference regarding the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, Report informs.
"In total, 116,574 landmines and unexploded ordnance have been detected. Of them, 65,585 were unexploded ordnance, 31,919 were anti-personnel mines, and 19,070 were anti-tank mines,” he noted.
Suleymanov said that more than 110 million landmines have been buried in more than 60 countries around the world: "Azerbaijan is also facing the problem of landmines. During the 30-year occupation, the enemy buried up to 1.5 million landmines in our lands. Immediately after the war, the process of demining began in the liberated lands.”.
