Presidential Aide: Rule of law and media freedom fully ensured in Azerbaijan

The rule of law and media freedom are fully ensured in Azerbaijan, Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, said in his statement to journalists on the sidelines of COP29 in Baku, Report informs.

According to Hajiyev, the event is dedicated to global climate issues, and climate change is a concern for the whole world:

"By hosting the event, Azerbaijan is taking necessary measures to address the global climate change. More than 200 journalists from Azerbaijan are participating in COP29. At the same time, despite operating illegally in Azerbaijan, Radio Liberty is also participating, which means that the rule of law and media freedom are fully ensured in Azerbaijan."

"There have been no cases of persecution related to these individuals' journalistic activities; the processes are related to non-journalistic activities. Being a journalist does not give grounds to break the law. Here we are talking about illegal financial turnover of large amounts. Illegal financial turnover is a violation of Azerbaijan's laws. Institutions calling themselves media organizations don't understand it. Unfortunately, some resources, including Radio Liberty, that consider themselves media organizations are engaged in populism and show-like propaganda," the presidential aide stated.
