Chairman of the government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev has met with heads of CIS news agencies, including AZERTAC.
Report informs that, held at TASS head office, the meeting was part of the 27th session of the heads of CIS news agencies (CIS Information Council). Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC) Aslan Aslanov attended the meeting.
Dmitry Medvedev noted that the CIS Information Council played a crucial role in developing relations between countries. “The relations between your agencies open up opportunities to address a number of organizational issues." The chairman of the Russian government noted the distorted information received by people caused many misunderstandings, stressing the role of reliable state news sources in this regard.
TASS director general Sergey Mikhailov gave the floor to AZERTAC Chairman of the Board Aslan Aslanov, saying next year AZERTAC will mark its 100th anniversary. Dmitry Medvedev answered Aslan Aslanov’s question regarding First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva’s meeting with the Russian President and chairman of the government. He said that the meetings discussed almost all aspects of bilateral relations, including economic, social and humanitarian areas. He described Mehriban Aliyeva’s official visit to Russia as successful.
The CIS Information Council was established in November 1995. It incorporates the heads of government-run news agencies of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia and Tajikistan. The next meeting will be in Baku in March 2020. The CIS Information Council’s mission is to ensure cooperation by the CIS countries in the media sphere, and create favorable conditions for the free dissemination of information, effective exchanges of professional experience and the strengthening of the media space.
