Kaspi newspaper celebrates its 144th anniversary

Today marks 144 years since the first issue of Kaspi newspaper was published on January 1, 1881.

According to Report, Kaspi was the only periodical in Baku for a long time. Initially, the newspaper was published twice a week, then three times. From 1884, the newspaper began publishing daily.

The first editor-in-chief of the newspaper was Victor Kuzmin. Throughout its 144-year history, many prominent figures have led the newspaper. Among them, public and state figure Ali Mardan bay Topchubashov holds a special place. He became the editor-in-chief of Kaspi after philanthropist Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev bought the newspaper in 1897. Topchubashov declared "education of the region's population" and "liberation from ignorance and poverty" as the newspaper's mission.

Kaspi's publication was suspended in 1919 and resumed at the end of the 20th century. At that time, Kaspi newspaper also began publishing in Azerbaijani language.

Since 2021, Kaspi and Kaspiy newspapers are part of Azerbaijan's largest media holding, Global Media Group.

The editor-in-chief of Russian-language Kaspiy is well-known journalist Vyacheslav Sapunov, while the editor-in-chief of the Azerbaijani-language newspaper is honored journalist Ilham Guliyev.

The newspaper of three centuries is published with a modern and beautiful design. Published every Saturday, the 16-page colored Kaspi features political, economic, social, cultural, and sports materials.

Kaspi's materials can also be read on Kaspi.az and Kaspiy.az websites.
