Fuad Huseynaliyev: Best way to prevent fake news is to provide adequate and accurate information

"The best way to prevent fake news is to provide adequate and accurate information. The sooner accurate information is provided, the more fakes are prevented," Fuad Huseynaliyev, Director of Report Information Agency, said at the Real Research program on the Real TV.

According to him, at a time when social networks have become a serious phenomenon, attention to information security should be increased: “Today, every person can act as a "simple journalist" through a smartphone. At such a time, information protection and information accuracy are very important. We have seen many times that fake news causes serious upheaval in different countries. Later it turned out that the news was fake, but it was already too late. Because the process has already started and is actively developing. Such news becomes a fateful event in a number of cases. Therefore, as traditional media, it is very important for us to provide accurate information.”

Fuad Huseynaliyev said that the situation regarding crisis communication has improved in the last few years: “For example, the relevant government agencies established communication promptly and accurate information was delivered to the society when an explosion occurred in a night club. But there are still some problems. For example, the delay in publication of certain information, the complexity of sentences, etc. Sometimes, complex sentences can be found in the press releases of state bodies. We, in our turn, try to simplify those sentences as much as possible. This is exactly what our professionalism is.”

He also spoke about the social media: "Social media is not governed by law. I think the importance of social networks in the country is a little exaggerated. The reference to social network is not correct. We increase the weight of social networks with such steps. Our society still trusts the news more than the social network."
