Finnish envoy: 2-day seminar for journalists focuses on 3 aspects

The two-day seminar for journalists “Media and Hybrid Attacks” in Baku, which should help media professionals be prepared for such threats and be able to prevent them, focuses on three aspects, Finnish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Kirsti Narinen told journalists, Report informs.

She noted that the first aspect is the fight against information that comes from outside the country. Each country in one way or another is the object of such influence, the ambassador said.

The second aspect is devoted to media literacy, how consumers of information can distinguish truthful material from the news flow, which is based on real events. This requires skills from media consumers. “In our case, this means a lot of public debate about critical thinking in the media, as well as the education of the younger generation,” she added.

The third aspect is the role of the media in conveying truthful information, she noted. “Professional media are different from social networks. Professional journalistic media are designed to convey the truth based on facts and figures, as well as analysis that supports the critical thinking of media consumers,” the ambassador concluded.
