AnewZ documentary explores lasting impact of Korean War

How did one war divide a single people into two states - and why, more than 70 years later, does the Korean Peninsula remain one of the most tense points on the global geopolitical map?

AnewZ TV's new documentary, "Frontline: Korea - One War, Two Solutions," takes viewers to one of the world's most militarized borders, where the consequences of the Korean War continue to shape politics, security and the lives of millions, Report informs.

The film's author and producer Anastasia Lavrina and director Bahruz Gadirov traveled to the Republic of Korea to examine the consequences of the peninsula's division on the ground. For the first time, Azerbaijani journalists offer such an in-depth documentary look at the issue, covering everything from the Korean Demilitarized Zone to the stories of war veterans and families separated by the border for decades.

Lavrina said the decision to focus on the Korean Peninsula was not accidental.

"Relations between Azerbaijan and the Republic of Korea are developing steadily, with political, economic and humanitarian ties expanding. Against this background, it is especially important to better understand the history and modern reality of a country with which Azerbaijan is building increasingly close cooperation. We wanted to go beyond familiar news headlines and show Korea through its history, geopolitics and, above all, the lives of people who, decades later, continue to live with the consequences of the peninsula's division," she said.

Why was a peace treaty never signed? What keeps the two Koreas on opposite sides of one of the most heavily guarded borders on the planet today? And does the idea of reunification have a future?

"Frontline: Korea - One War, Two Solutions" continues AnewZ Frontline's international documentary series, which examines global conflicts and geopolitical processes through reporting from the scene and the stories of people at the center of history.
