Since the beginning of 2020, 83 media workers have been killed in 30 countries, said the annual record of the Swiss non-governmental organization Press Emblem Campaign (PEC), published in Geneva.
Report informs, citing TASS, that India confirmed the highest number of media murders - 13 people. In Mexico, 11 journalists were killed. The most dangerous countries for the press are Pakistan (8 people), Afghanistan (5), Iraq (5), the Philippines (4), Honduras (4), Venezuela (3), Nigeria (3), Syria (3), Brazil (2), Guatemala (2), Liberia (2), and Somalia (2). One media worker was murdered in 16 other countries.
According to the PEC, 75 journalists were killed in 2019 and 1,180 in the last ten years. Besides, more than 520 journalists have died of coronavirus infection since March 2020.
