People’s poet Fikret Goja passes away 

First Secretary of the Union of Azerbaijani Writers, People’s Poet Fikret Goja has passed away at the age of 85, Report informs, referring to the Union.

Fikret Goja was born in Agdash in 1935 to the family of a therapist. He graduated from the Literature Institute in 1964 in Moscow.

His works have been published since 1956. He worked at State Radio and Television Broadcasting Committee, “Azerbaijani youths” newspaper, “Azerbaijan” magazine, as an executive secretary on international relations at the Union of Azerbaijani Writers. Fikret Goja had been the executive editor of Gobustan since 1978 and he was active in the Writer's Union of Azerbaijan, becoming secretary in 1997.

Some of his poems in the 1990s were about the struggle for freedom in Azerbaijan. He also has a number of prose works. The events of January 20, 1990, are reflected in the stories.

In addition to writing poetry, he translated some of the works by Mikhail Lermontov, Taras Shevcnehko, I. Walker, and others.

Fikret Goja was awarded the Lenin Komsomol Prize for a poem dedicated to youth heroism and valor In 1968, the “Humay” prize due to his 90-year work in 1998, the Order “Shohrat” ("Glory") in 1995.
