UNHCR intends to support demining

The large-scale demining operations carried out in the liberated Karabakh region, as well as the work done to restore the destroyed infrastructure, are very commendable, the Representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Azerbaijan Guido Ambroso said during a meeting with the Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) Vugar Suleymanov.

The Representative was informed about the history of the Agency's activities and the ongoing humanitarian demining operations in Karabakh.

The meeting discusses the prospects of future cooperation with ANAMA to ensure the safe return of former IDPs to their native lands. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the humanitarian organization, intends to support demining activities in priority areas.

Mr. Ambroso expressed his gratitude for the high-level organization of the "Explosive Ordnance Awareness" training conducted by ANAMA specialists for UNHCR staff.

He also stressed the importance of the measures taken by the Agency in this area.
