Ilham Aliyev expresses condolences to Vladimir Putin

The President of Azerbaijan expressed condolences over the tragedy with the downed helicopter of the Russian Air Force on the Nakhchivan section of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border.

Report informs that President Ilham Aliyev apologized for the tragic accident, noting that the helicopter was mistaken for an Armenian Air Force helicopter in the darkness.

Ilham Aliyev also asked to convey his condolences to the families and friends of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured pilot.

The President of Azerbaijan also expressed the country's readiness to pay compensation to the families of those killed and the injured pilot.

President Ilham Aliyev informed President Vladimir Putin that the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan had launched a criminal case on this fact, and an investigation is underway. The perpetrators will be brought to account, and the Russian side will be informed in this regard.

The Russian President thanked President Ilham Aliyev for the phone call, noting that such an incident was unacceptable.
