Russian FM Lavrov: 'Azerbaijan has regained the territories that belong to it'

Azerbaijan has regained the territories that belong to it, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with Rossiya 24, Report's Russian bureau informs.

"The territories of Azerbaijan were occupied by Armenia, Azerbaijan regained its lands," the Russian foreign minister said.

According to him, as Armenia and Azerbaijan continue to look for ways to stabilize the situation in the Caucasus, the CSTO is also ready to help in this matter.

"And after a surge of violence in September last year, we received a request from Armenia and sent a special mission of experts along with the CSTO Secretary General, who came to the border and brought a plan to deploy the CSTO mission to the part of Armenia that borders Azerbaijan. The plan was ready a long time ago, but the Armenian side did not rush us. As a result, the text of the corresponding decision was prepared at the summit in Yerevan. But Yerevan said that a decision would be needed only if it categorically condemned the actions of Azerbaijan, while not all countries were ready for this.

The history of the entire Karabakh war goes back to decades ago. For many years, Armenia occupied seven regions around Azerbaijan, and Russia offered numerous options that the former leadership of Armenia did not perceive positively, trying to keep territories that it never claimed," Lavrov said.
