Russian Foreign Ministry: Pashinyan insisted on continuing hostilities in 2020

There was a possibility of a ceasefire back in October 2020, but Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan chose to continue hostilities, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a briefing, answering a question from NEWS.ru about Pashinyan’s accusations against the CSTO.

Zakharova also recalled that thanks to the involvement of Russian President Vladimir Putin, it was possible to bring official Baku and Yerevan to signing a trilateral statement on November 9, 2020.

"This statement announced a complete ceasefire. This document and the trilateral statements adopted in its development by the leaders of the three countries, which were reached in the period from 21 to 22, remain the only alternative roadmap for a sustainable process of Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization," she emphasized .

According to Zakharova, the possibility of concluding a ceasefire agreement was available back in October 2020; Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev agreed to end the war: "But Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan insisted on continuing hostilities. And what did this lead to? Everyone remembers very well, and all this is documented."
