Political scientist: Considering Armenia’s appeal, UN Security Council fulfilling order from US

The UN Security Council, which on August 16 will consider Armenia’s appeal regarding the ‘humanitarian crisis’ in Karabakh, is fulfilling an order from the US, Political scientist, director of the Institute of Contemporary State Development Dmitriy Solonnikov told Report.

He noted that achieving peace is unfavorable for Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan: “Pashinyan is a representative of the American line of world behavior and most of the leading political structures, including the UN, are representatives of the same behavior.”

The political scientist noted that although there are attempts to negotiate with Azerbaijan in restoring the borders in the interests of Armenia, the position of Pashinyan himself doesn’t coincide with the interests of the Armenian population.

“After the defeat in the Second Karabakh War, a corridor of opportunities opened up for Armenia, it would be possible to quickly sign an agreement, get out of isolation and start developing the economy, this is all beneficial to the Armenian people, but not in the interests of the Armenian leadership,” Solonnikov added.

The expert believes that the UN will not pay due attention to Armenia’s request, but a scandal will be initiated.

“At least two permanent members of the Security Council - the US and France will actively model this agenda. Of course, France is not interested in considering its own problems related to North Africa, where they are called colonialists. Therefore, it is more profitable for them to consider another situation where they play the role of ‘peacekeepers’,” he said.
