Political scientist: Azerbaijan should be provided with maps of minefields

The Armenian side should submit maps of minefields to Azerbaijan, Stanislav Pritchin, a senior researcher at the Center for Post-Soviet Studies at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), told the Russian bureau of Report.

The expert noted that this issue is of fundamental importance, because civilians are dying due to a huge number of mines, minefields and ammunition, in general.

“This is a very important and acute topic. Maps of minefields should be provided to Azerbaijan as a goodwill gesture, or as part of discussing other issues. This problem must be resolved,” he said.

Commenting on the upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia, the expert stressed that with a high degree of probability, the party of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will win the elections.

“Judging by the ratings, Pashinyan will retain control over the government. The results of the elections will determine Armenia’s compliance with its commitments under the ceasefire statement,” the expert said.
