The international community must appeal to Armenia to demand the transfer of minefield maps to the Azerbaijani authorities in order to save the lives of innocent people, said Muhammad Zaman, executive director of the YFK International Kashmir Lobby Group from Pakistan, Report informs.
“More than 5,000 people every year lost their life and between 15 to 20,000 people got injured due to that such type of the incidents. So, there is a need to create awareness regarding this issue. Karabakh region of Azerbaijan is another area which is heavily mined due to the 30 years of war in that area. So, there’s the end of this conflict now and people are returning to that area.
We request the Armenian authorities to hand over the minefield maps to the Azerbaijani authorities so we can save more and more lives and we can travel towards the mine-free world. We also request international community to force Armenia to hand over the maps of the fields to the Azerbaijani authorities, so it will be a greater act to save the humanity and the human lives,” he noted.
A number of foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and civil society activists are collecting signatures for the petition “Global Initiative for a Mine-Free World.”
The petition was posted on the international platform JotForm as part of the international campaign “World For Peace in Caucasus.”
