Moldovan newspaper: Landmines continue to kill children in Azerbaijan and Ukraine

Landmines continue to kill children in Azerbaijan and Ukraine, said Moldovan newspaper Ziarul National, Report informs.

As reported, since the start of the war in Ukraine, mines have killed 124 people, including 6 children: “In Azerbaijan, since November 2020, about 300 people, including 9 children and teenagers, have been victims of landmines.”

The article tells the stories of two boys - Daniil and Kismat - who died as a result of mine explosions in Ukraine and Azerbaijan.

The author noted that in March 2022, Daniil Kharchenko's family tried to escape by car from the Russian troops who occupied most of the Chernihiv region at the time: “Their car was hit by a mine on the Chernihiv-Kyiv highway: the children were burned alive, their mother was thrown out of the car as a result of the explosion and she also lost her life.”

The article stated that in June 2021, 11-year-old Kismat Bayramov, who lived in one of the villages of the Kalbajar region of Azerbaijan, left home to look for his father's lost horses: “As he grew up in a peasant family, this occupation was nothing new to him. But this time the boy did not return home. They searched for him for almost three months. At the end of September, the soldiers found the remains of the body of the missing Kismat in the mountainous area near the village.”

The author emphasized that Azerbaijan and Ukraine need about the same amount of funds and about 30 years to completely clear the territories from mines.
