Markov: Yerevan evading implementation of tripartite agreements

Armenia cannot accept defeat in the second Karabakh war and evades delimitation and demarcation of the Azerbaijan-Armenia border, Russian political scientist, director of the Center for Political Studies Sergey Markov told the Russian bureau of Report.

According to the Russian political scientist, Armenia still has not reconciled itself and wants to replay the results of the war: “Yerevan evades the implementation of the agreement dated November 10, 2020. In particular, it does not withdraw military formations from the territory of Karabakh, which constantly creates military tension. In addition, Armenia doesn’t agree on the Zangazur transport corridor.”

At the same time, Markov noted that some more “geopolitical intrigues” have become a stumbling block in the establishment of relations between Baku and Yerevan. “The United States is very beneficial in the conflict between Baku and Yerevan, which now has two ways. If Russia doesn’t intervene in the situation in the South Caucasus, Washington will raise an anti-Russian campaign, and Armenia will withdraw from the CSTO and the EAEU. If Russia intervenes, it will be in conflict with Turkiye, which will have to abandon its position of neutrality,” the Russian political scientist believes.

On September 12, units of the Armenian Armed Forces carried out a large-scale provocation in the Dashkesan, Kalbajar and Lachin directions of the Azerbaijan-Armenia state border.
