Korotchenko: Armenia's attempts to stage political show doomed to failure

The statements about the so-called "humanitarian crisis" of Armenians in Garabagh are absolutely artificial and politicized, Director General of the Caspian Institute for Strategic Studies (Russia) Igor Korotchenko told Report's Russian bureau.

The expert noted that the Azerbaijani side proposed the Aghdam-Khankandi route to ensure the supply and delivery of humanitarian goods.

"This proposal was approved during the talks in Moscow with the participation of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia, moreover, it was agreed that a meeting would take place between representatives of Karabakh Armenians and the official authorities of Azerbaijan. But the separatists, with the support of Yerevan, canceled and disrupted all the agreements reached. Moreover, the separatists have erected concrete blocks on the Aghdam-Khankandi road, completely blocking the possibility of cargo delivery along this road, while demanding the opening of the Lachin road and, in fact, putting forward an ultimatum," Korotchenko said.

According to the expert, Armenia's appeal to the UN Security Council about the situation on the Lachin road only testifies to Yerevan's attempts to "portray itself as a victim" and will lead to nothing.

"Only the proposals of the Azerbaijani side, which were considered at the trilateral meeting in Moscow, can be a real alternative to the current situation," he said.

"Armenia's attempts to stage this political show are doomed to failure, no efforts of the international Armenian lobby will be able to change this situation," Korotchenko concluded.
