Irish traveler says shocked to learn about number of landmines in Karabakh

Landmine contamination has emerged as one of the most pressing issues for Azerbaijan in the aftermath of the Karabakh conflict, Niall O'Murchu, an Irish traveler who witnessed the mine clearance process in the Fuzuli district, told Report's correspondent.

"I was shocked when I learned about the immense damage a single landmine explosion can cause and the sheer number of mines laid in Karabakh. Witnessing a real explosion was even more terrifying. The noise and vibration pierced through me," O'Murchu recounted.

O'Murchu emphasized that demining is one of the most challenging tasks Azerbaijan faces. "Most problems can be solved over time—roads and buildings can be rebuilt. However, I fear that completely eliminating all the landmines will take far too long," he added.
